Paintings and Sculpture

Apr 30 — Jun 29, 2019
New York, Uptown

Marlborough is pleased to announce a group exhibition of important paintings and sculpture. The exhibition will present masterworks from fourteen of the most accomplished and celebrated artists of the last 100 years.

Paintings by Frank Auerbach, Francis Bacon, Fernando Botero, Claudio Bravo, Chu Teh-Chun, Richard Estes, Juan Genovés, Antonio López García, Paula Rego and Zao Wou-Ki will be on display along with sculptures in bronze, Cor-Ten or stainless steel by Magdalena Abakanowicz, Jacques Lipchitz, Beverly Pepper and George Rickey.

Among the artworks in the exhibition are the striking oil and pastel on canvas from 1986, Study from the Human Body, by Francis Bacon, intense, colorful abstract paintings by Chinese-French masters Chu Teh-Chun and Zao Wou-Ki, a key early 30-foot long kinetic sculpture by George Rickey consisting of six groups of his innovative stainless steel “lines,” two recent figurative works in pencil and oil by the Spanish master realist Antonio López García as well as a crucial 1917 Cubist bronze Baigneuse (Bather) by Jacques Lipchitz.

The quintessential works of art—shown throughout the gallery as well as on the 57th Street terrace— comprise a selective examination of recent art history and highlight the unique influences of these artists on subsequent generations of creators.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a fully illustrated catalog.
